  2. Skanda Shasthi (Karthik Shukla Paksha Shasthi)


Thaipusam:

Sri Murugan Thaipusam is a South Indian festival day which commemorates the occasion when Devi Parvati gave Murugan the Vel (Spear) to vanquish demon Soorapadman. Thaipusam falls on the day when the Pusam nakshatra is in ascendency on Poornima day in the Tamil month of Thai.

Skanda Shasthi:

Sri Skanda Skanda Shasthi is the day in which the victory of Sri Skanda over demon Surapadman (after a terrible six-day battle) is celebrated. Skanda Shasthi falls on Karthik Shukla Paksha Shasthi.
