Shakambari Devi - Sakarai:

  • Shakambari Devi (Sakarai): A famous pilgrimage of Devi Shakambari situated in Sakarai near Udaipur Wati in Rajasthan. The temple is at the foothills of Aravalli hills in the region known as Malketu. The temple has similar twin idols of Brahmani and Rudrani, each having eight arms. The Devi is depicted as killing the Mahishasura riding on a lion. Sadhus of the Nath cult has been the priests of this temple. Sakarai lake is located in the Sikar district of Rajasthan.

    Shakambari Devi - Sambhar:

  • Shakambari Devi (Sambhar): A famous pilgrimage of Devi Shakambari located on the bank of Sambhar lake in the Rajasthan Plain. According to legend Goddess Shakambari was pleased with some service done to Her. Therefore She converted a dense forest into a plain of silver. The inhabitants were afraid that this will result in a strife among people. So they prayed to the Goddess. At their request the Goddess converted the plain into a lake known as Sambhar, which is considered as a corrupt form of Shakambar. Sambhar lake is located in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan.

  • Shakambari Devi (Saharanpur): A temple of Devi Shakambari located on the foothills of the Shivalik hills. Mountain streams flow nearby and the atmosphere around is very soothing. Saharanpur is located in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

    Banashankari Devi:

  • Banashankari Devi (Badami): A famous temple of Devi Banashankari near Badami located in the Tilakaranya forest. The idol of the Goddess is made of black stone. The Goddess is depicted as sitting on a lion and trampling a demon under Her foot. The Goddess has eight arms. Seven of the arms hold trishul (trident), damaru (hand drum), kapalpatra (skull cap), ghanta (war bell), Vedic scriptures, khadga (sword) and kheta (shield). The annual festival of the temple is called Banashankari jatre which is held in the months of Jan / Feb. The festival includes a boat festival and Ratha Yatra. Badami is located in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka.
