Pilgrimages of Uttarakhand - Pauri Garhwal district

Pauri Garhwal is a beautiful scenic place in Uttarkhand Himalayas with ice-clad mountains and Deodar forest. The river Alakananda flows through Pauri Garhwal.

Kanvashrama:

Kanvashrama 14 km from Kotdwar.

Nature:
Bank of river Malini.

Temples:
It is believed that Rishi Vishwamitra meditated here. Indra sent apsara Menaka to break his tapasya with her charm. Menaka was successful and thereafter daughter Shakuntala was born. Shakuntala was brought up by sage Kanva at Kanvashrama.

Neelkanth (1330 m):

Neelkanth Mahadev temple 32 km from Rishikesh.

Nature:
Confluence of rivers Pankaja and Madhumati.

Surrounded by Manikoot, Brahmakoot and Vishnukoot valleys.

Temples:
There is the famous Neelkanth Mahadev temple.
It is believed that Lord Shiva consumed the poison from Samudra Manthana in this place.

Srinagar (Pauri Garhwal district):

Srinagar About 35 km from Devaprayag.

Temples:
Srinagar is one of the biggest townships of the Pauri Garhwal district. It is located at a junction of roads from Kotdwar, Rishikesh, Tehri Garhwal, Kedarnath and Badrinath. It serves as main halting point for the pilgrims of "Char Dham Yatra".

Tara Kund Nature:
A Natural Lake amidst lofty mountains.

Temples:
There is an ancient temple.
The Teej festival is observed with fervour.
