Mountains associated with Sri Rama


1. Chitrakoota Mountain:

Chitrakoota Mountain: (चित्रकूट)
Sri Rama staying at Chitrakoota • Sri Rama stayed in the Chitrakoota mountain-forest during his forest exile. Sri Rama met Bharata there, and visited the hermitages of sages Valmiki and Atri. River Mandakini flowed through Chitrakoota.

Kamadgiri Hill is the place where Sri Rama, Lakshmana and Devi Sita is believed to have stayed during their forest exile. Pilgrims circumambulate the Kamadgiri Hill (Kamadgiri Parikrama or Pradakshina) through a 5 km path. There are many temples on the path of the pradakshina. Kamadgiri Hill is also identified with Ramagiri Shakti Peetha.

2. Rishyamuka Parvata:

Rishyamuka Parvata: (ऋश्यमूक)
Sri Rama meeting Sugreeva • Sri Rama made friendship with Sugreeva in the Rishyamuka Parvata. Sri Rama slayed Vali while staying there and made Sugreeva the king.

Rishyamuka Parvata of Ramayana is identified with Rishyamuka Parvata of Hampi in Karnataka. There is a Sugreeva Gufa (Cave of Sugreeva) in that hill. Anegundi and adjoining Hampi regions are identified with the puranic Kishkindha.

3. Mount Prasravana:

Mount Prasravana: (प्रस्रवण)
Sri Rama • Sri Rama stayed at Mount Prasravana in a spacious cave during the four months of the rainy season.

Malyavanta Raghunatha Temple of Ballari district in Karnataka is identified with the Mount Prasravana of Ramayana. The temple is on the Malyavanta Parvata. The place is also known as Sphatik Shila and is around 7 km from Hampi. Anegundi and adjoining Hampi regions are identified with the puranic Kishkindha.

4. Suvela Parvata:

Suvela Parvata: (सुवेल)
Sri Rama • Sri Rama stayed on the Suvela mountain in Lanka during his battle with Ravana.
