• Greatness:

Shrishailam is primarily a Shiva Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Shiva):
- Lord Shiva abides in Shrishailam as a Jyotirlinga (Linga of Jyoti) [Somanatha, Mallikarjuna, Mahakaleshwara, Omkareshwara, Kedarnatha, Bhimashankara, Vishwanatha, Tryambakeshwara, Vaidyanatha, Nageshwara, Rameshwara, Grishneshwara] [Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga].
- Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati came to meet their son Kumara at Shrishailam and abided there as Jyoti (Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga).
- Shrishailam is also a Paadal Petra Sthalam (Glorified by Nayanmars) [Thirupparuppadam]

Shrishailam is also a Devi Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Devi):
- Devi abides in Shrishailam as a Shakti Peetha (Seat of Shakti) [Shrishaila Shakti Peetha] (Devi Bhramaramba).

Shrishailam is the place where the sacred river Krishna flows.

• Shrishailam Bhramaramba is identified with the Shrishaila Shakti Peetha. The Griva (Neck) of Devi had fallen here. The Devi is known as Mahalakshmi and the Bhairava is called Sambarananda.
