Sri Ganesha & demon Sindhu: Sri Ganesha killed demon Sindhu riding on a Mayura or Peacock (hence the name Mayureshwar). On the request of the devas Sri Ganesha stayed there permanently as Sri Mayureshwara or Moreshwara. (The legends of Sri Ganesha are mentioned in Ganesha Purana and Mudgala Purana)
