Thirupavalavannam Divya Desam - Pavalavanna Perumal Temple

Lord VishnuMeditation: I meditate on Sri Pavalavanna Perumal and Sri Pavalavalli Thayar in Thirupavalavannam Divya Desam.

Greatness: Thirupavalavannam is a Divya Desam. It is the 55th Divya Desam and is located in Thondai Nadu. The Lord here is known as Pavalavannan since he assumed a form which was coral red in color. Opposite to the Pavalavannan Temple is the Pachaivannar Temple. Though Pachaivannar Temple is not a Divya Desam, these two temples are often always referred together.
- Perumal is in Sitting posture on Adisesha facing West.
- Pratyaksham: Ashwini devatas, Parvati
- Mangalasasanam: Thirumangai Alvar (1 Pasuram)
- Vimanam: Pravala Vimanam
- Pushkarini: Chakra Teertham

Puranic Events:

1. Lord Vishnu & sage Bhrigu: Sage Bhrigu performed penance here and got the darshan of the Lord.
- Events: Once in Naimisharanya, sage Narada suggested the sages to offer their fruits of sacrifice to the greatest among the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). Sage Bhrigu was deputed to determine this. Sage Bhrigu first visited the Satya Loka, but saw that Lord Brahma was busy with Devi Saraswati and did not take notice of him. He cursed Brahma that he would not be worshipped in any temple on Earth. Then he proceeded to Kailasha and found that Shiva also was busy with Devi Parvati and failed to take notice of him. He cursed Shiva that he would only be worshipped in the form of a Linga. Finally he went to Vaikuntha and saw that Lord Vishnu was in Yoga Nidra. In anger sage Bhrigu kicked the chest of the Lord. The Lord woke up and instead of getting angry humbly received the sage and massaged his foot. Sage Bhrigu declared that Vishnu was the greatest among the Trinity. However due to the sin of kicking the Lord he went to Kanchipuram and undertook a penance. Lord Vishnu appeared before him as Pavalavannan.

Deities:

- Pavalavalli Thayar: The Image of Sri Pavalavalli Thayar.

Sacred Geography:
- Chakra Teertham: Pushkarini of the temple.

Location: Thirupavalavannam is located in Kanchipuram in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. This is in Thondai Nadu. The temple can be visited from Kanchipuram (within Kanchipuram city).
