Thiruvelukkai Divya Desam - Azhagiya Singa Perumal Temple

Lord NarasimhaMeditation: I meditate on Sri Azhagiya Singa Perumal and Sri Mukunda Nayakan Perumal and Sri Velukkaivalli (or Amruthavalli Thayar) in Thiruvelukkai Divya Desam.

Greatness: Thiruvelukkai is a Divya Desam. It is the 46th Divya Desam and is located in Thondai Nadu. The name Thiruvelukkai is derived from Thiru (Divine), Vel (Wish) and Irrukai (Place of stay). So this means the divine place where the Lord stays out of his own wish. The Lord here is known as Azhagiya Singar which is the form of Lord Narasimha. In this form the Lord protected the yagna of Brahma from a Kapalika. The Lord is also known as Mukunda Nayakan which is said to be the earlier form of the Lord. In that form the Lord appeared before sage Bhrigu.
- Azhagiya Singar is in Sitting posture facing West, Mukunda Nayakan was in Standing posture facing East.
- Pratyaksham: Bhrugu Muni
- Mangalasasanam: Peyalvar, Thirumangai Alvar (4 Pasurams)
- Vimanam: Kanaka Vimanam
- Pushkarini: Kanaka Saras, Hema Saras

Puranic Events:

1. Lord Narasimha & Brahma: Lord Brahma performed an yagna worshipping Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu protected his yagna from a Kalalika in the form of Narasimha.
- Events: Once there was a controversy between Lord Brahma and goddess Saraswati. Due to this the goddess started creating impediments when Lord Brahma started a yagna of Lord Vishnu. Goddess Saraswati sent a Kapalika to destroy the yagna. Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Narasimha (Azhagiya Singar) and vanquished the Kapalika.

2. Lord Vishnu & sage Bhrigu: The original form of the Lord here known as Mukunda Nayakan, in which form he appeared before sage Bhrigu when he worshipped the Lord here.

Deities:
- Azhagiya Singar: The Image of Sri Azhagiya Singar in Sitting posture facing West.
- Mukunda Nayakan: The Image of Sri Mukunda Nayakan (earlier) was in Standing posture facing East.
- Velukkaivalli Thayar: The Image of Sri Velukkaivalli (or Sri Amruthavalli) Thayar.

Sacred Geography:
- Kanaka Saras: Pushkarini of the temple.

Location: Thiruvelukkai is located in Kanchipuram in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. The temple can be visited from Kanchipuram (within Kanchipuram city).
