Badrinath (Badarikashrama)

Badrinath, Chamoli district, UttarakhandMeditation: I meditate on the ancient Badrikashrama which is beginningless like the Vedas and where Lord Hari Himself is the presiding deity; where great personages meditated since time immemorial and attained salvation.

Badrikashrama: Badrinath was known as Badrikashrama in ancient times. It is an ancient pilgrimage of Lord Vishnu which is a Swayam Vyakta Kshetra as well as a Divya Desam. It is one of the All India Char Dham as well as one of the Uttarakhand Char Dham. The glory of Badarikashrama is mentioned in the Skanda Purana - Badarikashrama Mahatmya. According to Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Vishnu in his incarnation as sages Nara and Narayana has been undergoing great penance in Badarikashrama since time immemorial for the welfare of the living beings.

Swayam Vyakta Kshetra: Badrinath is one of the eight Swayam Vyakta Kshetras (Sri Rangam, Tirumala, Sri Mushnam, Thotadri, Shalagram, Pushkara, Naimisharanya and Badrinath).

Thiruvadhari Ashramam Divya Desam: Badrinath is one of the 108 Divya Desams known as Thiruvadhari Ashramam Divya Desam.

All India Char Dham: Badrinath is one of the four places of All India Char Dham (Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameshwaram).

Uttarakhand Char Dham: Badrinath is one of the four places of Uttarakhand Char Dham (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri).

• Badrinath is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
