• Greatness:

Joshimath is a Divya Desam (Glorified by Alvars) [Thiruppirudhi Divya Desam]
- Joshimath is the gateway to Badrinath.

Lord NarasimhaJoshimath is a Narasimha Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Narasimha):
- Lord Narasimha abides in Joshimath in an ancient temple of Narsingh Bhagavan. The hand of the image of Lord Narsingh is getting thinner day-by-day. It is believed that when the hand breaks, the mountains Nara and Narayana will join together. Then Lord Badrinath will disappear and reappear in Bhavishya Badri.

Sri Adi ShankaraJoshimath is a Sant Sthalam (Place of Saints):
- Sri Adi Shankaracharya (788 - 820 CE?) had set up one of his four monasteries in Joshimath. The monastery is known as Jyotir Math.
