Joshimath - Jyotirmath of Adi Shankaracharya

• Meditation:
- Narasimha: I meditate on Lord Narasimha abiding in Joshimath as Narsingh Bhagavan.
- Adi Shankara: I meditate on the Jyotirmath established by Sri Adi Shankara at Joshimath.
- Sages and Saints: I meditate on the Sages and Saints meditating in Joshimath.
- River Alakananda: I meditate on river Alakananda flowing through Joshimath.

देवि सुरेश्वरि भगवति गङ्गे त्रिभुवनतारिणि तरलतरङ्गे ।
शङ्करमौलिविहारिणि विमले मम मतिरास्तां तव पदकमले ॥
- Ganga Stotram - verse 1 (River Alakananda which is a headstream of river Ganga flows through Joshimath)

• Joshimath is a Divya Desam (Glorified by Alvars) [Thiruppirudhi Divya Desam]
- Joshimath is the gateway to Badrinath.

• Joshimath is a Narasimha Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Narasimha):
- Lord Narasimha abides in Joshimath in an ancient temple of Narsingh Bhagavan. The hand of the image of Lord Narsingh is getting thinner day-by-day. It is believed that when the hand breaks, the mountains Nara and Narayana will join together. Then Lord Badrinath will disappear and reappear in Bhavishya Badri.

• Joshimath is a Sant Sthalam (Place of Saints):
- Sri Adi Shankaracharya (788 - 820 CE?) had set up one of his four monasteries in Joshimath. The monastery is known as Jyotir Math.
