Parashurama's vow to exterminate the kshatriyas

Jamadagni Ashrama: Parashurama's vow to exterminate the kshatriyas:

(Brahmanda Purana - 30)

Lord ParashuramaMeditation: I meditate on the Parashurama Avatara of Lord Vishnu.

Parashurama's vow to exterminate the kshatriyas: Then Devi Renuka came out of the hermitage and seeing her husband in a pool of blood and dead, started wailing piteously. Lamenting again and again, she cried out calling Parashurama. In the meantime, Parashurama also returned to the hermitage with Akritavana. On the way he had also seen bad omens and got the report of the events. Seeing his father dead, he was also filled with grief and stood with face directed down. Akritavana composed him, gave him courage, and told him to console his mother. Parashurama took the vow before her mother that since she had beat her chest (in grief) twenty one times, he will exterminate the kshtriya caste that many times.

Sage Bhrigu resuscitating sage Jamadagni: Then the sons made preparation for the cremation of their father. Devi Renuka decided to ascend the funeral pyre of her husband and firmly told her decision to her sons. Then an incorporeal voice told Devi Renuka not to take any decision in haste and have fortitude since her husband will regain consciousness before long. The sons then took the body of their father inside the hermitage. In the meantime, sage Bhrigu appeared there. Hearing about all the events, he resuscitated sage Jamadagni with Sanjivani Vidya. Sage Jamadagni was delighted to see his great-great grandfather.

The reason of Kartavirya Arjuna's behaviour: Then sage Jamadagni asked sage Bhrigu why Kartavirya Arjuna behaved in this manner whom he considered to be a good person. Sage Bhrigu meditated for sometime and said that it was due to the curse of sage Vasishtha (Apava Vasishtha). Due to an act, the sage cursed him that his vigour will be destroyed on account of an offence against a brahmana. Therefore, it was due to fate that the king acted in that manner, and due to fate, Parashurama will carry out his vow (of destroying the kshatriyas). However, the king was a devotee of Dattatreya, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and he had served old people. Therefore, there will be sin in killing him. Saying this, sage Bhrigu went back (to his hermitage).
