Origin of Devi Vindhyavasini (as the daughter of Yashoda): When Kamsha tried to kill her, she took the form of Devi and vanished in the sky. She made her abode in Vindhyachala and came to be known as Vindhyavasini.

Devi slaying demons Shumbha and Nishumbha: Devi slayed demons Shumbha and Nishumbha in the Himalayas. They were reborn again. The second time Devi slayed them in the Vindhyachala mountain as Devi Vindhyavasini.

Rama Gaya: After killing Ravana, Sri Rama returned to Ayodhya and started ruling his kingdom. One day Sri Rama saw his father Dasharatha in Preta Yoni. Therefore, Sri Rama went to Gaya and performed the Shraddha of king Dasharatha. Sri Rama again performed the Sharaddha at Vindhyachala Kshetra at the confluence of rivers Ganga and Karnavati (after knowing the greatness of the place from sage Vasishtha). This place is known as Rama Gaya.
