Agni

Agni invokes the devas during the yagna

- ॐ अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥
[Om Agnim-Iille Purohitam Yajnyasya Devam-Rtvijam | Hotaaram Ratna-Dhaatamam] (RV 1.1.1)
O Agni, we praise (Iile) you who are the Purohita (the priest leading the sacrifice) and the Ritvij (the priest offering oblations) of the sacrifice (Yajnya) to the devas (Deva) at proper times; You are also the Hotara (the priest invoking the devas) and the bestower (Dhaatamam) of wealth (Ratna).

- अग्निः पूर्वेभिर्ऋषिभिरीड्यो नूतनैरुत । स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥
[Agnih Puurvebhir-Rssibhir-Iiddyo Nuutanair-Uta | Sa Devaan Eha (Aa-Iha) Vakssati] (RV 1.1.2)
O Agni, you were in former times (Puurvebhih) praised (Iiddyah) by the Rishis and (Uta) (is still praised) now (at present times) (Nuutanaih); (O Agni) grow (Vakssati) in this place (Iha) along with the Devas (i.e. bring the devas here).

- अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः । देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥
[Agnir-Hotaa Kavikratuh Satyash-Citrashravastamah | Devo Devebhir-Aa Gamat] (RV 1.1.5)
O Agni, you are the invoker of the devas (Hotaa), is far-sighted with wisdom (Kavikratuh) and is uniquely famed (Citrashravastamah) for sticking to truth (Satya); O (Agni) Deva, come here (Aa Gamat) (in this place of sacrifice) along with the Devas (i.e. bring the devas here).

- अग्निं दूतं वृणीमहे होतारं विश्ववेदसम् । अस्य यज्ञस्य सुक्रतुम् ॥
[Agnim Duutam Vrnniimahe Hotaaram Vishvavedasam | Asya Yajnyasya Sukratum] (RV 1.12.1)
O Agni, we elect (Vrnniimahe) you, who is all-knowing (Vishvavedasam) and the messenger (Duuta) of the devas, as the invoker (Hotaara) (of the devas in this sacrifice); (We elect you as the) skilled coordinator (Sukratu) of this (Asya) sacrifice (Yajnya).

Agni acts as the messenger of the devas during the yagna

O Agni, we elect (Vrnniimahe) you, who is all-knowing (Vishvavedasam) and the messenger (Duuta) of the devas, as the invoker (Hotaara) (of the devas in this sacrifice); (We elect you as the) skilled coordinator (Sukratu) of this (Asya) sacrifice (Yajnya).

Agni bears the oblations during the yagna

- अग्निमग्निं हवीमभिः सदा हवन्त विश्पतिम् । हव्यवाहं पुरुप्रियम् ॥
- [Agnim-Agnim Haviimabhih Sadaa Havanta Vishpatim | Havya-Vaaham Puru-Priyam] (RV 1.12.2)
O Agni, (the performers of the sacrifice) by reciting (Haviimabhih) Agni Agni always (Sadaa) invoke you (Havanta), you who are the Lord (Vishpati) (of the sacrifice); You are the bearer of oblations (Havya-Vaaham) and dear (Priya) to many (Puru).
