Kamrup Umananda Temple is situated on a small island known as Umananda Island or Peacock Island on river Brahmaputra. Withn that island, the temple is situated on a small hillock known as Bhasmachala Hill. Umananda Temple is located in the Kamrup district of Assam.

Umananda is the bhairava of Devi Kamrup Kamakhya (Kamagiri Shakti Peetha) and hence this temple is of great significance along with the Kamakhya Temple of the Devi.
