• Greatness:

Lord Shiva Sri KumaraMahisagar Sangam is a Shiva Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Shiva) and Skanda Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Skanda) together:

- Mahisagar Sangam is a puranic kshetra mentioned in Skanda Purana - Kaumarika Khanda. It is the sacred region where river Mahi merges with the Sea (Mahi - Sagara Sangam). Among the many incidents mentioned in the Skanda Purana, one of the important one is the battle of Kumara with Tarakasura.

- Sri Murugan (Skanda) defeated Tarakasura in this place and thereafter installed five Shiva Lingas and worshipped them to atone the sin of killing a Shiva-Bhakta (since Tarakasura was a devotee of Lord Shiva). One of the Shiva Lingas is known as Stambheshwara. Stambha means Pillar, so the Stambheshwara Linga represent the Pillar of Victory.
