Srimushnam is primarily a Varaha Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Varaha):
- Lord Varaha abides in Srimushnam which is a Swayam Vyakta Kshetra (Where Lord Vishnu is self-manifested) [Srirangam, Srimushnam, Venkatadri, Salagrama, Naimisha, Thoyadri or Thotadri, Pushkara, Nara Narayana Ashrama]
- According to legend, Srimushnam temple tank known as Nithya Pushkarini was formed from the perspiration of Lord Varaha when he killed demon Hiranyaksha.
