Unification

Beauty of Nature

1. The Goal:

In the Introduction we saw that the Goal is to unify the three outer dimensions of life - Education, Environment and Economy through the Vedic Vision of Nature. The Vedic Vision should guide Science and Technology as the inner dimension of Heart. Science and Technology should themselves act as the inner dimensions of the Head and the Hand to manifest the dimension of the Heart.

2. The Core Concepts:

In the Core Concepts we saw that the Vedic Vision of Nature is based upon four Core Concepts - Rishis, Rita, Devas and Yagna. This was represented as a triad.

Fig 2: Representation of the Core Concepts as a triad

3. The Unification:

In this section, we put forward the way to unify the three outer dimensions of (Education, Environment and Economy) through the philosophy of the Vedic Vision of Nature represented by the triad of (Vedic mantras, Rita and Yagna). This is done by looking at the three outer dimensions from the perspective of the Vedic Vision of Nature, and aligning them with the core concepts.

The three outer dimensions then take a new meaning:

1. Aligning Education with Vedic mantras: (Study stage)

Vedic perspective: Education is bringing about inner illumination by studying the Vedic mantras.

Vedic goal: The goal (from this Vedic perspective) is to make our mindset like the Rishis.

Steps: Incorporate the study of Vedic mantras in Education along with their meanings.

→ With the inner illumination of Education obtained by the study of Vedic mantras, we now go to the next stage.

2. Aligning Environment with Rita: (Re-Imagining stage)

Vedic perspective: Environment is the expression of Rita or Cosmic Order of Nature. It manifests the divine forces and beauty within Nature (as well as its fury).

Vedic goal: The goal (from this Vedic perspective) is to view Environment from the perspective of Rita or Cosmic Order.

Steps: View Environment from the perspective of Rita or Cosmic Order. Record the different components of Rita. This is much more than recording ecological resources. (Vedic Environment is very broad and deep covering both the outer and inner dimensions)

→ With the understanding of Environment from the perspective of Rita, we now go to the next stage.

3. Aligning Economy with Yagna: (Design stage)

Vedic perspective: Economy is our participation in the Vedic Yagna to uphold or enhance Rita or Cosmic Order. This Vedic Yagna does not necessarily mean a ritual but what Vedic Yagna essentially represents.

Vedic goal: The goal (from this Vedic perspective) is to design the Economy from the perspective of Yagna, whose central aim is to uphold or enhance Rita or Cosmic Order (and not individual goals).

Steps: Design the Economy based on Rita or Cosmic Order.

→ The above stages can be performed in an iterative manner in small steps bringing about gradual changes.

4. Is it practical?

The essence of the proposition of the Vedic Vision of Nature is:
- First, study the Vedic mantras and illumine yourself [Education part];
- Then, perceive the universe and life forms from the perspective of Rita or Cosmic Order [Environment part];
- And finally, design the Economy based on Yagna where the economic activities uphold and enhance Rita [Economy part];
Is this practical?

Without giving a direct "Yes" or "No" answer, let us look at some cases which might make this possible (maybe on a very small scale).

1. Sustainability drive: The current lifestyle and economy will drive the world to a state of Unsustainability to such an extent that natural disasters, depleting natural resources and other existential threats will force humankind to seek a Sustainable solution in urgency. Different approaches will be tried out. Vedic Vision of Nature may be one of them.

2. Cultural drive: The Sustainability drive is based on threat, but Cultural drive is based on love. Those well-versed in the Vedic culture would want to adopt the Vedic Vision of Nature, realising the long-term benefits of the wisdom of the Rishis.

3. Exploration drive: The Sustainability drive is based on threat. The Cultural drive is based on love. The Exploration drive is based on discovery. Reading the Vedic Vision of Nature, some people may discover aspects of their lives connected with the greater Vedic perspective, and therefore want to explore further.
