Indra destroys the obstructing forces

- अस्य पीत्वा शतक्रतो घनो वृत्राणामभवः । प्रावो वाजेषु वाजिनम् ॥
[Asya Piitvaa Shatakrato Ghano Vrtraannaam-Abhavah | Praavo Vaajessu Vaajinam] (RV 1.4.8)
O Indra (Shatakrato), after drinking (Piitvaa) this (Asya) (i.e. this Soma juice), you become (Abhavah) the destroyer (Ghanah) of (enemies like) Vrtra; Please protect (Pra-Avah) the warrier (Vaajinam) in the battlefield (Vaajessu).

- यस्य संस्थे न वृण्वते हरी समत्सु शत्रवः । तस्मा इन्द्राय गायत ॥
[Yasya Samsthe Na Vrnnvate Harii Samatsu Shatravah | Tasmaa Indraaya Gaayata] (RV 1.5.4)
Whose (Yasya) yoked (Samsthe) horses (Harii) cannot (Na) be stopped (Vrnnvate) by the enemies (Shatravah) in the battle (Samatsu); To that (Tasmaa) Indra let us sing (Gaayata) (praises).

- त्वं वलस्य गोमतोऽपावरद्रिवो बिलम् । त्वां देवा अबिभ्युषस्तुज्यमानास आविषुः ॥
[Tvam Valasya Gomato-(A)pa-Avar-Adrivo Bilam | Tvaam Devaa Abibhyussas-Tujyamaanaasa Aavissuh] (RV 1.11.5)
O Indra, you (Tvam) destroyed (Apa-Avah) the mountain (Adrivah) cave (Bilam) (signifying clouds) of demon Vala which confined the cattle (Gomatah) (signifying Sun rays); You (Tvaam) made the devas (Devaa) manifest (Aavissuh) (in the sky) when fear was dispelled (Avibhyussah) and pride was driven away (Tujyamaanaasa).

- मायाभिरिन्द्र मायिनं त्वं शुष्णमवातिरः । विदुष्टे तस्य मेधिरास्तेषां श्रवांस्युत्तिर ॥
[Maayaabhir-Indra Maayinam Tvam Shussnnam-Ava-Atirah | Vidusst-Te Tasya Medhiraas-Tessaam Shravaamsy-Ut-Tira] (RV 1.11.7)
O Indra, by the power of Maya (Maayaabhih) you (Tvam) destroyed (Ava-Atirah) the demon Shussna (literally who dries up) who was skilled in Maya (Maayin); The wise men (Medhiraah) know (Vidu) that power of yours (Tasya) (which removes drought). Please give (Ut-Tira) them (Tessaam) abundant shower (Shravas) (and remove the drought from their lives).

O Indra, you (Tvam) have made the water (Apaam) fall (Avrnnoh) from the covering (Apidhaanaa) (of the clouds), the liquid (Daanumat) wealth (Vasu) (i.e. water) which was held (Adhaarayah) within the mountains (Parvate) (of clouds); O Indra, when (Yat) you killed (Avadhii) the serpent-demon (Ahi) Vrtra with great power (Shavasaa), then (Aad-It) Surya ascended (Arohayah) in the sky (Divi) and became visible (Drshe).

Indra releases the rain water from the clouds

O Indra, you (Sa) shower (Vrssan) for us (Nah) the clouds (Caru) and give (Davan) us the wealth (Satraa) (of waters) which were confined (Apa Vrdhi) (in the clouds); For us (Asmabhyam) (you release the waters) which are not to be confined (Apratisskutah) (in the sky).

- मायाभिरिन्द्र मायिनं त्वं शुष्णमवातिरः । विदुष्टे तस्य मेधिरास्तेषां श्रवांस्युत्तिर ॥

Indra uncovers the sun hidden behind the clouds

O Indra, you expanded (Diirghaaya) the visibility (Cakssasa) by mounting (Aa Rohayad) (i.e. uncovering) the Sun (Suuryam) in the sky (Divi); Thereby mountains (Adrim) (of clouds and darkness) were broken (Vi Airayat) by its rays (Gobhih).
