- Devi Sita appeared from Earth in Mithila and was adopted by king Janaka as his daughter. Devi Sita grew up in Mithila in the palace of king Janaka.

Mithila is equally a Rama Sthalam (Pilgrimage of Rama):
- Sri Rama delivered Devi Ahalya from the curse of sage Gautama on the outskirts of Mithila.

- Sage Shatananda had his hermitage in Mithila. Sage Shatananda was the son of sage Gautama (and Devi Ahalya) and the kulaguru of king Janaka. Sri Rama heard the story of sage Vishwamitra from sage Shatananda in Mithila.
